Id like to see unique films, made. Films that are original ideas, mixed with cliche ones. For example a film about a couple of kids who are aliens and show up on Earth with their parents. However not in secret but rather publically. The government goes through changes allowing the kids to go to school and learn about humans, and their ways. They fall in love. do homework, get in series of trouble, etc.

  1. The fresh Prince of Bel- Air came out on september 10, 1990. It’s moralistic storylines, and promotion of black steryotypical affluence, provided the hip hop industry in the 90’s what they needed to boost their audience.
  2. The fresh Prince of bel- Air encouraged tv shows of black african american families, degrading the  many racial steryotypes.
  3. http://www.people.com/people/archive/article/0,,20131618,00.html This article goes over how the Fresh Prince of Bel- Air changed Will Smith’s life and family television. I never really watched the show, though the fresh Prince of bel-air to me just brought out racial steryotypes and knocked them in the head one by one. Showing the brother sister love the black race has always had an upper hand on.

I find myself very irritated at the fact that white artists were covering black artists songs, and in addition the white artists became popular based on those covers, leaving the black artists with no recognition whatsoever.

Suddenly R&B was becoming a sort of stunt to white music artists. Although R&B wasnt popular along music charts, once covered by white artists they became eligible along the charts and became pop song.  Buying a song from a black artist and not giving them much credit once it gets popular seemed to be a habit of white artists, one that was very rude and ignorant.

Racism was everywhere even in the music industry. The thought of having to recover you album artwork such as the Marvelettes in their song ” please Mr. postman”, because of what the public might think of it was one disgusting example.

3. Acknowledgement to the original is huge in the definition of a remix. It plays the part of  the original composition. However remixes nowadays are not acknowledged, because people sample other peoples music and have for a while now. Even in modern day old music is copied and remixed to sound as if it was never a remix in the first place.

Do Now 12/10 Music Censorship and Free Expression

Do Now 12/10 Music Censorship and Free Expression.

1. Censorship of music is obviously needed in the society we live in today. Children, kids basically anyone younger than 18 should not be listening to music with explicit lyrics( containing sex, drugs, violence etc.) . I don’t see why this should be open for discussion at all. Music is very influential in everybody’s life there’s no argument about that, therefore not all music should be approppiate for everyone.  The kids of the world shouldn’t have to worry about the violence they face, or sex they had, or even drugs they are going to deal.)  Explicit music gives them reason to think that its normal to have those problems. One of the major reasons that the world is like it is today: kids getting drunk, drunk driving, dealing drugs, getting pregnant, being in jail, etc. is because of the media we feed to them.  Yes music should be freely expressed, just not to a complete public audience.

2.. Parent advisory labels play a very important part in the media fed to children. It limits the explicit content available to children, and lets parents understand how much freedom they are giving their children. Lets face it some parents are still living in the ” stone age” , and don’t always understand technicalities. Parent advisory labels provide them the small amount of understanding they need. In my opinion all stored shouldn’t allow kids under 18 to buy explicit music unless they have parents permission. However the parent advisory labels wont make much of a difference if  the music industry markets explicit music to the wrong audience.
